Review: ManageWP

by | Feb 20, 2018 | ManageWP, Product Review, WordPress

Please note: This product can be only be used on self-hosted WordPress installations. It will not work with websites hosted on WordPress.com.

Whether you have a single WordPress website or multiple ones spread out over servers around the world, administrators face the same issues on a daily basis:

  • new releases of WordPress, themes, and plugins
  • backup and restore process
  • performance testing and monitoring
  • security review
  • search engine optimization
  • site, page, and post analytics

If you have just one website, it would be a matter of just logging in and traversing around the administration menus. What does that take? Perhaps 10 or 15 minutes. This is not a real tedious task for most. But wait! You just checked if your plugins and theme are up-to-date, see if you have any unmoderated (or spam) comments, and glanced at your WordPress statistics (if you have Jetpack enabled). When was your database backed up? Are you running a secure website? Is it performing at its best? Now you have to either check on the plugins you have installed to do those functions or go to other websites to check. Your brief visit just turned into an extended one.

Now, let’s say that you have two WordPress websites – that will double the time! Every individual WordPress instance you add to your Internet real estateĀ increases the time you need to spend doing routine maintenance. It also increases the likelihood that you will not get to it every day. You also improve your chances of missing a very important security update or a problem reaching your website. These are all things you want to avoid.

WordPress Management Dashboards

There are a number of WordPress management solutions on the market today, including one from WordPress. From within your WordPress.com dashboard, any installations you have connected with Jetpack will show what plugins are installed and require updates. You can also monitor your WordPress statistics. If you have a non-free installation of Jetpack, other facilities such as backups are available.
