Update: the stream is back on-line!
I am making some more changes to the way the web site looks and feels. The major reason behind these changes is my moving from using WordPress to Movable Type Open Source for my blog. I feel a much greater comfort level using perl and PHP will never be my cup of tea. That is just me.
So, I am not sure whether I will retain the main part of the web site as an MTOS-driven site or not. You will, however, see some cosmetic differences. Pardon me while the dust rises and settles again.
First, welcome to all my former work friends! I posted the link in my message to the Yahoo! group just so you would have a way to find me! :-)
Second, I have decided to retire my old blog, My Sediments Exactly. Its run of several years will remain archived on the web site for your future reference.
Third I invite you to continue my saga in the offline and online worlds in my new blog, again with a corny geological play on words, Gneiss, Tuff, and a Little Wacke. It will be filled with more of my (mis)adventures as well as commentary on life in general!
Last, but not least....

I am attempting to change the way that WordPress creates the URL for each entry within the web site, using mod_rewrite. Needless to say, this may not work. So, if you get here and cannot get to a page over the next 30 minutes or so, please bear with me (and cross your fingers and your toes).
(hear the sounds of Jim, rapidly changing parameters and cursing?)
Update! It worked! And something that I was unsure of was whether or not the old link format (http://jimmetzger.net/?page_id=20, for example) which some may have already bookmarked or a search engine found will still work with the new improved version (http://jimmetzger.net/fire-service/live-scanner-stream/, which it has now become). By George, it does! Now, I need to re-read the mod_rewrite documentation to fully understand how all of it works. For those of you who have been tempted to try this feature of WordPress, but were afraid to do it, read the entry Using Permalinks in the WP Codex. It is a very good explanation of how it works and how to avoid problems with it as well.
Off to change the blog too! Boy, I feel daring today!
...click here for what Randy is talking about!
Thank you, Randy! I guess that is my five minutes of fame, having the entire blog entry about radio in West Chester read on the air! Thank God I had no grammatical errors! And really, everyone should give a daily listen to the Jay and Randy Show on WCHE, 1520 AM or streaming, where the static is!
...the vast number of things, stuff, junk, programs, applications, widgets, and other electronic trash I have accumulated, installed, signed up for, and been inundated with over the past several years. Time to unsubscribe, resubscribe, or just plain subscribe to things, as well as consolidate and summarize.
Enough action words there? Makes me tired just writing the words... nap? No, to work!
...yes, my original blog is back and I have decided to continue to write on it as well! I will continue for the moment to use WordPress for the web site as well. It does make it easier to maintain from wherever I may be. So, take a read over at My Sediments Exactly!
This entry should be entitled Finally Spring Cleaning I guess. After moving the web site to the new provider, Liquid Web, I need to get all the information and stuff moved over here. I will be moving my old blog over (for those who still like to use it as reference) as well as all the radio and weather information. It will just take some time with everything else going on around here, Internet and non-Internet related (yes, I do things offline :-) ).
Best idea is to check back often!
In response to a comment on a previous post, no amount of money will bring back the CCPD high band dispatch rebroadcast. Unfortunately, the actual radio transmissions are down. Since the 800 system came online, the rebroadcast on high band was just the dispatcher-side of the communication and, in the words of CC DES, the dispatcher always had the right to turn it off. The word on the street is that there was a hardware failure on the CCPD Central High Band rebroadcast system (the one I like to listen to since it is the one that carries West Whiteland PD). When asked at a recent Chester County Fire Police Association meeting, DES responded that they were all down and (don't quote me!) there was no need for the high band rebroadcast anyway. That brought a groan from all in attendance.
I am going to do a bit of digging to see if I can find out anything more on this subject and will report back my findings here.
The scanner audio stream is back online! Please use the following temporary link which will do a search on Shoutcast (mine is the stream entitled “Chester Co, PA USA Live Scanner Radio”). I should have the original radio pages up later today.
