I decided to make this blog more related to what I term things in general, life as a whole, my hobbies, my politics, and such. The one thing I wished that I had done was to journal more about one particular pursuit, that of being a non-traditional (read: mature) college student. While I did make entries about what was going on in that arena, most of them were related to bitching about the administration of my university with regards to the treatment of such things as (not) transferring credits previously earned.
Now entering the world of graduate school (note to self: finish your application) and changing gears slightly (from Geology to Geography), I decided to segregate my continuing education into a journal of its own. Enter Mapping My Way. Now, you can read that phrase with two distinct inflections. "Mapping My Way" is a half pun, using a spatial representation for the years ahead. "Mapping My Way" is a reflection of my ever-questioning of the way things have been and are being done, replacing the old methods with my own means. Both inflections of the phrase totally describe my philosophy and approach to education. Keep track and study carefully and thoroughly to understand the work that has been done in your field, while always questioning it, analyzing it, and, if appropriate, find a better way to do it.
In that segment of my web site, I will not only journal my experiences and knowledge gained, but will include some of the products of my classes, reading lists, and general information that might be helpful to others pursuing their degrees, undergraduate or graduate. I hope, too, that professors and instructors, both mine and others, will read through it. No, I don't expect a higher grade by promoting one professor or another (don't let that stop you please!), but I hope that they can see themselves through the eyes and ears of their most important product, their students.
So, now I need to do housework (yes, laundry is in progress) as well as yard work, kitchen cleaning, reading, and, yes, that application. Almost in the mail!
