Site Redesign (Sort of) Complete

I do so love the dynamic part of the web. I can change the look and feel of my web site as often as I like. It usually happens annually and it is done... well, for the moment. More like the first phase of it all.

My goal is to build an Movable Type template as well so that you won't see the difference moving from web site to journal and back again. Not really a tough task, just time consuming. Since I am currently using the same template here and on my journal, I think that the experimentation will be on this one, considering it gets much less traffic.

This is what transpired...

January 2nd 2008: Making good progress getting all the new formats working and getting the first sets of content to be ready for upload. Today, I am making the scripts to make the format work automtic for each page. The site may appear a tad screwy at times while I get things uploaded and tested. As usual, please bear with me.

Update: All of the behind the scenes work is completed (at least for now). Time to make the content! Please note that there is a placeholder already in place for each category.

December 30th 2007: After two days of reeducating myself on tableless design and floating div's, I think I have finally conquered the beast. It looks good at 800x600 as well as at larger and smaller sizes, and I did it all by myself without copying someone else's floating whatever. It even looks good printed out, although I want to make it print without all the adornments which is easily done with a style sheet. Amazing, too, all editing has been done in vi in an ssh session. Now to create the style sheet and build the perl-driven SSI to make maintenance easier for me.

December 28th 2007: I am in the process of renovating the design of the web site (again). Long story, short... I changed over to using Movable Type Open Source (MTOS) for my blog. Since I was using WordPress for the overall production of the web site, I have decided to go back to a more flexible design for everything else so that I can use perl (my first language of choice) and server-side includes versus having to hack into PHP and WP's foiables.

So, for right now, my blog, Gneiss, Tuff, and a Little Wacke, is up and operational, as well as the live scanner stream (see status block below). I will be bringing sections back online over the next several weeks.
