I am attempting to change the way that WordPress creates the URL for each entry within the web site, using mod_rewrite. Needless to say, this may not work. So, if you get here and cannot get to a page over the next 30 minutes or so, please bear with me (and cross your fingers and your toes).
(hear the sounds of Jim, rapidly changing parameters and cursing?)
Update! It worked! And something that I was unsure of was whether or not the old link format (http://jimmetzger.net/?page_id=20, for example) which some may have already bookmarked or a search engine found will still work with the new improved version (http://jimmetzger.net/fire-service/live-scanner-stream/, which it has now become). By George, it does! Now, I need to re-read the mod_rewrite documentation to fully understand how all of it works. For those of you who have been tempted to try this feature of WordPress, but were afraid to do it, read the entry Using Permalinks in the WP Codex. It is a very good explanation of how it works and how to avoid problems with it as well.
Off to change the blog too! Boy, I feel daring today!
